Year in Review: 2017

2017 was an exciting year for home improvement. Many people began shifting their focus to the outside of their home, looking at the exterior, landscaping and outdoor living spaces as new, more modern trends in design arose from magazines and blogs. At Dreamscape Designers, we are always excited to see new ideas and trends, and are ready to adapt trends to each of our client’s individual personalities and styles! With the new year just around the corner, let’s review some of our favorite trends and highlights of 2017:

More greenery: One of the biggest trends in 2017 was the increased use of plants in both interior and exterior design. With a larger focus on going green in everyday life, people seemed to take it literally as well! Not only did homeowners use more plants, but also showed an interest in local plants that are good for the environment around them! We love designing full, green yards that attract all kinds of birds and helpful insects.

Natural Materials: Blending perfectly with the use of more greenery, the use of natural materials really took a stand this year. This trend applied to all outdoor features, from beautiful walkways to elegant, functional outdoor kitchens. An outdoor space that fits right in with the natural environment can make your outdoor space feel less like a typical backyard and more authentic.

Coming together: More people were choosing outdoor spaces in 2017 that draw family and friends together. This means creating an atmosphere perfected for socializing, with added lighting, fireplaces, gardens and carefully arranged seating in outdoor living spaces. We excel at creating a space that brings people together during all seasons of the year for outdoor activities!

Taking on these trends and working with our wonderful clients was the highlight of our year. We look forward to the New Year and can’t wait to see what trends will surface in 2018! The year isn’t over yet though, and there is still time to give us a call at (757) 412-1265 for all of your outdoor design needs.
