Your Outdoor Spring Cleaning Checklist

With the weather getting nicer, it’s time to enjoy getting back outside! Unfortunately, it’s difficult to do with an outdoor living space that hasn’t been touched all winter. While many people take time to deep clean inside, there is no shortage of exterior spring maintenance activities. Dedicating time to making your yard look great now means you’ll reap the benefits throughout the spring, summer and fall.

From afar, your patio, walkway or water feature might look great, but try looking closer. When you get closer to these features, you’ll likely notice issues that need to be addressed. Look between pavers and stone for weeds and roots before they do damage that can be costly. We recommend sweeping jointing sand into your paver joints at least 3 times per year (spring, summer, and fall) to ensure a stable paver and help eliminate dips. A little bit of maintenance goes a long way, and will keep your hardscaping looking new!

Landscaping

When it comes to landscaping, it's best to start the season with a clean slate. That means, raking flower beds, pulling weeds and laying down mulch. For a professional look, we like to go a step further by pruning trees and shrubs to remove stray branches and create even heights. If you have an irrigation or sprinkler system, take a walk-through to ensure there are no leaks and that sprinkler heads are spraying in the right direction.

Lawn Equipment

Has your lawn equipment been stowed away all winter? Take time to prepare your lawn equipment—lawn mower, edger, blower, etc.—so it’s ready to go before the grass starts growing at rapid-fire pace. Replace old gas, charge batteries, sharpen tools and stock up on frequently-used items like trimmer line and lawn garbage bags.

Is there anything more satisfying than seeing the progress of a power washer? Spring is a great time to say goodbye to all of the grime. Power washing your walkways, fences, patio furniture and playground structures creates an extra-clean outdoor space.
