Ideas for Backyard Summer Fun

While Virginia may be in the later phases of reopening the state, the CDC continues to recommend social distancing to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. This means that many summer concerts, fireworks and other outdoor events are cancelled. However, it also means that people are finding their own creative ways to have fun at home, in their own backyards! Here are some of our favorites:

A personal recreation field. Is your favorite golf course closed? Are the parks too crowded? Artificial turf isn’t just used to keep your lawn looking green and fresh - it can also provide your own recreational space at home! Set up your own greenspace to play soccer with the family or enjoy an afternoon of putting practice. You can even create a small putt putt field for the kids to have fun during a summer without theme parks or playgrounds.

Your own relaxation station. If your neighborhood pool remains closed, you don’t have to miss out on relaxing outdoors. While some homeowners may not be ready for a pool, you can still create your own space with shade, comfortable seating, a hammock stand and beautiful plants and flowers to spend time in the sun this summer. If you go the above ground pool route, artificial turf can prevent your backyard from becoming dead or yellow from pool water, and eliminate grass clippings and dirt from your pool.

Remember, small details make all the difference, too. Outdoor lighting can extend your time outside even after dark. Additional trees and shrubs can give your home more privacy and create shade.
