Using Water Features in Your Landscaping

Water features such as fountains, streams, and waterfalls are the perfect way to bring a sense of peace and serenity to your backyard oasis, which can be especially important in an urban setting. At Dreamscape Designers, we can easily incorporate any water feature you select into your yard or garden area. Here are some of the options you can choose from.

Fountains

Fountains are a wonderful way to add a soothing element to your outdoor area. They come in a wide variety of sizes and styles, and can be made to be either a focal point or merely an accent to the design of your outdoor living area. They can be freestanding, wall-mounted, tiered, or disappearing. The most popular materials that are trending for fountains right now include metal, fiberglass, ceramic, and cast stone. Some require more maintenance than others, and costs vary as well, so be sure to do your research before making a decision.

Ponds

If you want to take your landscaping to the next level, adding a pond is a great way to accomplish that. If you don’t have a lot of space to work with, a preformed standalone pond would make an attractive addition to a patio or small garden. If, however, you have the space for a custom pond, you will have the advantage of being able to choose the perfect size and shape for your landscape and surrounding architecture. Don’t be afraid to go big if you are able to, as larger ponds are actually easier to maintain. And while it isn’t technically necessary to add fish to your pond, they do add movement and color and are just plain fun for the whole family.

Streams and Waterfalls

The cheerful babble of a stream or the sounds of a cascading waterfall are perfect for bringing the sounds of nature to your backyard. Many streams require less maintenance than ponds if they are designed right, with layers of stone and gravel to filter the water naturally and a simple underground sump pump to catch the filtered water at the bottom and move it back up to the top. Incorporating waterfalls into your stream add another layer of sound and visual appeal, and are a great solution for yards with an upward slope.
